Dynatrace® Apps terminology
- AppEngine (previously Application Framework)
- AppShell represents the browser-based runtime system that isolates applications from each other, provides a secure communication mechanism for app interaction (using intents), and runs the Launcher which provides access to all Dynatrace Apps that are hosted by the AppEngine.
- app functions are Dynatrace functions written for and deployed with apps.
- ad-hoc functions are Dynatrace functions written ad hoc in the browser.
- Launcher is the application used to run Dynatrace Apps.
- Dock is the left-hand panel of the Launcher where installed apps are accessible.

An alert is a signal condition within a scope that requires timely action from a notified user or an automation. Alerting is available in the Dynatrace observability, security, and business domains.
- alert scope is defined by the selected signal and filtered entities on which the alert conditions are evaluated. Signals can be metrics, logs, spans, events, security events, or business events. Scope can filters, like a Kubernetes namespace or a set of services.
- alert conditions are the specific values, thresholds, and anomaly detections of signals that trigger notifications or automations.
- alert status indicates the severity of an alert, such as
OK
,warn
, orcritical
. Values vary depending on the domain. - ready-made alerts are provided by Dynatrace with no configuration required.
- health alerts are ready-made alerts provided by Dynatrace that indicate when a resource can no longer handle its task load properly.
- custom alerts are defined by the user.
- log alerts send notifications on logs containing
fraud
. - log alerts trigger automations on logs containing

. - SLO alerts trigger automations when the current burn rate of an SLO will exceed a defined threshold within 2 hours.
- business alerts are created when payments fail at a rate
> 5%
. - event alerts can, for example, send a notification via a maintenance Slack channel when
external air-conditioner died
events are received - workflow execution alerts can, for example, trigger a workflow when workload execution fails 3 times consecutively.
- anomaly detection execution alerts can, for example, trigger anomaly detection when execution fails 3 times consecutively.
